People Living with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia

According to the Single Point Estimate published by Ministry of Health (MoH) and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO), in 2007 it was estimated that 977,394 people were living with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia. The figures in the Single Point Estimate are generated from the two estimates, the population-based estimate and the sentinel surveillance based estimate. This results in a prevalence rate of 2.1% (1.7% among males and 2.6% among females; 7.7% urban and 0.9% rural areas) for the total estimated population of 73 million.
